THE challenge

Closing the AI skills gap

Students are graduating into a workforce already shaped by AI - but most don't have the practical skills employers are looking for.

In Europe, nearly 20% of employers now use AI technologies, yet only 15% of workers received AI training in the past year. Educational systems are struggling to keep pace, widening the gap between what students learn and what employers need.

Students outside elite universities face the biggest barriers to AI training, even as these skills become standard expectations in hiring. Without coordinated action, existing inequalities risk deepening as AI adoption accelerates.

NewFutures:AI closes this gap by expanding access to practical training and career support across borders and institutional tiers.

The initiative

Building AI skills
for 100,000 students

NewFutures: AI is a regional initiative expanding access to practical AI training and career support across Europe, the Middle East and North Africa.

Delivered through a strategic partnership between INCO and Chance, with support from Google.org, the program serves students at universities who face barriers entering the workforce.

Students gain both the skills employers are looking for and the career guidance to turn training into opportunity. The program is free, ensuring access doesn't depend on geography, background or institutional resources.

As AI reshapes work, NewFutures:AI helps ensure more people move forward with it.

Students Collaborating

Phase 1

Expanding access through university collaboration

Partner universities receive grant funding and comprehensive support to promote the program to students - with INCO managing all platform, content and student support.

The program operates as an extracurricular offering that students complete on their own time, with no additional burden on faculty or institutional resources.

Partner universities also join a network across Europe, the Middle East and Africa, sharing best practices and insights.

phase 2

Upskilling through
practice-based training

Students work through self-paced modules on a flexible online learning platform. Modules are built around realistic scenarios - the kind of tasks they'll actually do on the job, developing practical AI skills and the judgement to apply them.

Developed with industry subject matter experts, the curriculum covers five sectors: Marketing & Communications, Finance & Accounting, Business Operations & Logistics, ICT & Technical Support and Administration.

Each module produces portfolio work and students receive a certificate at no cost.

phase 3

Clarity through
AI-powered coaching

Students navigate a personalized journey through specialized AI Agents to define a clear professional direction. Based on Chance’s methodology, this autonomous experience guides them from self-reflection to market reality checks, translating aspirations into a future-proof career roadmap. Each student gains the strategic vision and confidence to target the right roles in an AI-shaped economy.

phase 4

Opportunity through professional solidarity network

Once their project is defined, students access the "Chance Collective" to bridge the gap to employment. Our "Door Opening" system activates a global network to break systemic barriers. Join the Chance Collective to support local youth in just 3 minutes a week by receiving profiles that match your expertise. Your simple gesture can open the door to their future.
